Boundless Life
World schooling reimagined
We joined the Boundless Life program in La Barra, Uruguay for the spring cohort, and honestly, it felt like the perfect way to end the school year.
Instead of rushing through the final months at home, we simply withdrew from our school in New York and joined the Boundless community abroad for a few months of worldschooling, slower living, Spanish immersion, beach days, and a completely different pace of life.
Since sharing more about our experience here in Uruguay, we’ve been getting flooded with questions about how the program works, what the schooling is actually like, what daily life looks like, and whether families can realistically make something like this happen.
So I decided to put together this resource to hopefully answer some of the most common questions and give you a real look into what this experience has been like for our family.
Everything you need to know about the Boundless Life Program
a global way to learn, live and travel
What initially drew us to Boundless Life wasn’t simply the idea of traveling abroad, it was the infrastructure and intention behind the entire experience.
This is not a DIY attempt at moving overseas with kids, navigating school systems alone, or trying to piece together housing, community, childcare, and workspaces on your own. Boundless Life has created a fully integrated lifestyle designed specifically for families who want to experience the world without sacrificing stability, education, or routine.
At its core, Boundless Life is a worldschooling program that blends travel, education, and remote work into one seamless experience. Families choose from one of eight global locations and live there for a three month cohort alongside other like minded families from around the world. During that time, children attend a worldschool education center while parents work remotely from nearby coworking spaces designed specifically for the community. Housing, school, workspace, and logistics are all coordinated through the program, making what could feel overwhelming surprisingly attainable.
What makes the concept even more appealing is the type of destinations they choose. These are not random tourist hubs. Each location is intentionally selected for its quality of life, safety, culture, walkability, and family friendliness. Think coastal towns, vibrant café culture, outdoor living, incredible food scenes, and places that genuinely feel livable, not just somewhere you pass through on vacation.
For us, joining the spring cohort in La Barra, Uruguay felt like the perfect way to slow down and close out the school year. We simply withdrew our children from school in New York and stepped into a completely different rhythm of life centered around community, cultural immersion, slower mornings, outdoor play, and experiences that extended far beyond a traditional classroom.
how Boundless Life works
Boundless Life is designed to make international living and worldschooling feel structured, seamless, and attainable for families.
Once families select a destination and cohort, the program coordinates the major logistics, including:
• Fully furnished housing
• A worldschool education program for children
• Dedicated coworking spaces for parents
• On site support teams before and during the cohort
• Built in community with other traveling families
The program currently offers locations across Europe, Asia, and South America, with options ranging from shorter 3 week summer camp programs to full 3 month fall, winter, and spring cohorts.
Education
The educational model is centered around hands on, place based learning rather than traditional classroom instruction. Inspired by approaches such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and the Finnish education system, children learn through creativity, exploration, cultural immersion, and real world projects.
Rather than separating travel from education, the destination itself becomes part of the learning experience.
Remote Work & Coworking
For parents working remotely, each cohort includes access to a professional coworking space with reliable WiFi, meeting rooms, and private call areas. The setup allows parents to maintain work routines while living abroad with their families.
Housing & Community
Housing is fully furnished and move in ready, eliminating many of the typical challenges that come with relocating internationally. One of the biggest benefits of the program is the built in community. Families arrive already connected to other parents and children going through the same experience.
On Site Support
Each location has a local team that helps coordinate logistics and support families throughout the program, both before arrival and during the cohort itself.
I’ll go into much more detail below about costs, daily life, schooling, housing, and what our experience has looked like living in La Barra, Uruguay.
Education, reimagined
At the core of Boundless Life is its global education program, and honestly, this was one of the biggest reasons we were drawn to it in the first place.
This is not traditional school, and that is very much the point.
The program is built around:
• Project based learning
• Creativity and exploration
• Cultural immersion
• Real world experiences
Rather than separating education from everyday life, learning becomes deeply connected to the environment, culture, and experiences surrounding each destination. The kids are not just learning about the world from a textbook, they are actively living in it.
The educational philosophy pulls inspiration from progressive models like the Finnish education system, Montessori, and project based learning approaches. There is a strong focus on curiosity, independence, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking rather than memorization and repetitive classroom work.
What I’ve personally loved most is the balance between structure and flexibility. The days still have rhythm and academic focus, but learning feels far more engaging and personalized. Students work on core academic skills while also participating in collaborative projects tied to real world themes and experiences.
There is also a huge emphasis on cultural immersion and outdoor learning. Living internationally naturally exposes children to new languages, traditions, foods, environments, and ways of life. Here in La Barra, Uruguay, that has looked like Spanish immersion, outdoor exploration, beach culture, slower living, and far more time spent learning through experiences rather than sitting behind a desk all day.
And for us, that shift alone has been one of the most impactful parts of this experience.
The program itself runs on 3 month cohorts, which makes this lifestyle feel much more approachable for families who may not be ready to commit to a full year abroad.
Cohorts currently begin in:
• September
• January
• April
The timing is intentionally designed to align relatively well with traditional school calendars while still offering flexibility for families wanting a different approach to education and travel.
built for real life (not just travel)
One of the biggest misconceptions is that something like this only works if you can completely unplug from work.
That’s not the case.
Boundless Life is built for modern families:
• Coworking spaces for parents
• Reliable WiFi and infrastructure
• A balance between work, school, and lifestyle
It allows you to keep your career moving while changing everything around it.
Remote Working with Boundless Life
One of the biggest questions we got before making this move was, “But how do you actually work while living abroad with kids?” Honestly, Boundless Life has thought through this part incredibly well.
The coworking hub has become such a central piece of our experience here in La Barra. Reliable wifi, comfortable workspaces, soundproof booths for private calls, meeting areas, coffee, and room to actually focus when you need to work. It’s not an afterthought, it’s built into the lifestyle.
But what surprised us most is that it feels like so much more than a workspace.
The traditional walls of the office are kind of broken down here. Parents are building businesses, taking meetings, freelancing, running companies, creating content, collaborating, brainstorming, and somehow also making time for slow lunches, surf checks, and school pickup.
There’s this really interesting mix of productivity and community that feels very different from the normal remote work setup. Instead of everyone working in isolation from their homes, people naturally connect throughout the day. Conversations happen over coffee, collaborations happen organically, and friendships are built in between work calls.
And honestly, this part has been pretty epic.
It feels less like “escaping work” and more like reimagining what work and life can look like together.
Boundless Life Costs
One of the questions we get most often about Boundless Life is pricing, and honestly, it varies quite a bit depending on the destination, season, apartment size, and how many children are enrolled.
The program is set up as more of an all in one lifestyle model rather than simply paying for school tuition abroad. Pricing can include your child’s education program, coworking access for parents, community events, airport transfers, and fully furnished housing depending on the package you choose.
There is also a one time enrollment fee per child, and then monthly pricing varies by cohort and location. In general, families can expect pricing to range anywhere from approximately €3,500 to €7,000+ per month depending on the setup.
One thing I appreciated while researching the program is that the pricing calculator is very transparent. You can adjust destinations, family size, housing options, and cohort dates to get a realistic idea of costs for your own family.
Housing through Boundless Life
One of the biggest stressors when considering long term travel or living abroad as a family is housing, and this is honestly one of the areas where Boundless Life makes the experience feel incredibly seamless.
The program offers fully furnished homes designed specifically for families, allowing you to arrive and settle in quickly without needing to coordinate leases, furniture, utilities, or setup on your own.
Homes are typically located close to both the education center and coworking spaces, which makes daily life much easier for families balancing remote work and school schedules. Depending on your family size, there are generally 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartment options available.
The apartments are move in ready and usually include essentials like:
• High speed WiFi
• Fully equipped kitchens
• Linens and towels
• Laundry facilities
• Utilities included
• Family friendly amenities and baby equipment in many homes
And honestly, one of my favorite parts, weekly housecleaning is included too.
The entire setup is designed to feel turnkey. You land, unpack, and can immediately focus on settling into the destination, meeting other families, and enjoying the experience rather than spending weeks trying to get organized in a new country.
For families who prefer to arrange their own accommodations, there are also vetted local housing options available outside of the standard Boundless housing program depending on the destination and availability at the time of booking.
More information on this to come… we have already learned there is a very big difference between a BOUNDLESS HOME and a LOCAL HOST HOME. A few families have been unhappy with their homes. So I’ll circle back to this in a more detailed post.
the community piece
One of the biggest things that sold us on Boundless Life was the community aspect.
The idea of moving abroad alongside other like minded families who also value travel, education, flexibility, and experiencing the world with their children made the entire experience feel far less intimidating.
Rather than arriving in a new country and trying to figure everything out on your own, Boundless creates an environment where families are already looking to connect from day one.
Before arrival, families are introduced through Zoom calls, Slack channels, and community groups, which makes it easy to start meeting people before even boarding the plane. Once you arrive, the connections continue naturally through everyday life, school drop offs, coworking spaces, outings, and organized events.
Each location also has a dedicated local team, and honestly, I’ve been incredibly impressed by how proactive and supportive they’ve been throughout the process. From pre arrival logistics to helping families settle in once they land, there is a strong support system throughout the entire experience.
The program also organizes regular community events and activities that help families connect naturally. Depending on the location, that can include things like family outings, cultural experiences, yoga classes, hikes, beach days, dinners, and social gatherings for both parents and kids.
And honestly, this might be the most underrated part of the entire experience, while also being the most impactful.
You are surrounded by families who made the same decision you did. Families who value experiences over routine, who are curious about the world, and who are intentionally choosing a different way of living and educating their children.
It creates an instant sense of connection in a completely new place, and that is something that would be incredibly difficult to recreate on your own.
For us, this has become one of the most valuable parts of the experience. You are not just moving abroad, you are stepping into an already established community of families navigating this lifestyle together.
The Boundless Life Locations
Boundless Life currently offers cohorts in eight locations around the world, with additional destinations expected to launch in late 2026.
Each location is intentionally chosen for its lifestyle, safety, walkability, culture, and overall family experience. Rather than focusing on major tourist hubs, the destinations are places that genuinely feel livable for several months at a time.
Current locations include:
• Sintra, Portugal
• Syros, Greece
• Tuscany, Italy
• Bali, Indonesia
• Kotor, Montenegro
• Andalusia, Spain
• La Barra, Uruguay
• Kamakura, Japan
One of the things I appreciate most is how different each destination feels. Some are coastal surf towns, others are historic European villages or culturally immersive cities, allowing families to choose the type of lifestyle and experience that fits them best.
not ready for 3 months?
there's another option.
If a full cohort feels like too big of a leap, Boundless Life also offers a summer camp experience.
A shorter, more flexible way to:
• Experience the program
• Introduce your kids to worldschooling
• Test the lifestyle before committing to a full cohort
It’s a great entry point and honestly, a really fun one.
If committing to a full 3 month cohort feels like too much, Boundless Life also offers international summer camps, which honestly feel like such an incredible alternative to traditional summer programs.
Instead of spending summer bouncing between sports camps and day camps at home, kids get the opportunity to experience life in another country, be exposed to new languages and cultures, spend more time outdoors, and build friendships with children from all over the world.
The days feel slower and more intentional. There’s a huge focus on creativity, movement, outdoor play, cultural immersion, and real world experiences instead of packed schedules and constant overstimulation.
Why this made sense for us
We’ve built our life around travel.
But this gave us something different.
Not just seeing the world, this is living in it.
Not rushing through destinations, this is being part of them.
And not doing it alone, but alongside a community that just gets it. I often travel solo with my kids, and having a sense of community meant the world to us.
This is just the beginning
Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing everything:
• What daily life actually looks like
• The highs, the challenges, and the unexpected moments
• What’s working (and what’s not)
• And how this is shaping both our family and Out Making Memories
If you’ve ever felt the pull to do something different… this might be it.
