Why South America Should Be on Your Radar
Our travels to South America were brought about by an opportunity to join Boundless Life in La Barra, Uruguay—something we couldn’t pass up.
What started as a three-month worldschooling experience quickly turned into so much more.
We packed up, pulled the kids from school, and traded our routine for a season of living differently—slower mornings, more time outside, and a deeper connection to the place we were in. Days were spent between the beach, the classroom, and exploring everything this part of South America has to offer.
It gave us the opportunity to truly live in a destination, not just visit it—and to experience firsthand the rhythm, culture, and lifestyle that make this part of the world so special.
More on that here.
Explore outside of the capital cities
The capital cities are absolutely worth visiting but don’t let your travels stop there. Step outside and you’ll find where South America really comes to life: untouched coastlines, wide open landscapes, and a rhythm that feels entirely different. It’s late dinners that turn into long nights, slow mornings that ease into the day, and a culture deeply rooted in tradition and community. Some of the best food and wine you’ll experience won’t be in the cities at all but tucked away in places you’d never expect. This is where the adventure feels raw, not manufactured and where the real magic happens.
A slower more intentional way of travel
Travel here isn’t rushed. Meals last longer, conversations go deeper, and days unfold without urgency. There’s no pressure to move quickly or check every box, just space to actually experience where you are. It’s the kind of travel that feels grounding, where you’re present in each moment instead of thinking about the next. In a world that moves fast, South America invites you to slow down.
diverse landscapes, one continent
Few places in the world offer this level of diversity in one region. In a single trip, you can move from coastal escapes and beach towns to rolling countryside, vibrant cities, and remote landscapes that feel completely untouched. Every destination offers something different, with its own energy, culture, and way of life. No two places feel the same and that’s exactly what makes traveling through South America so compelling.
not just a trip, a shift in perspective
There’s something about South America that changes the way you travel. Maybe it’s the pace, the people, or the way life is lived so fully, every single day. You start to notice things differently… to slow down, to connect more, to experience rather than rush. It’s not just about where you go, but how it makes you feel while you’re there. And once you experience that, it’s hard to travel any other way.
why south america belongs on every traveler's list
South America offers something many destinations have lost—authenticity. Travel here feels less curated and more real, where experiences unfold naturally instead of on a schedule. You’re not just passing through, you’re stepping into the culture, the food, and the way of life. Whether you’re exploring coastal towns, countryside estancias, or vibrant cities, South America delivers a depth of experience that stays with you long after you leave.
