Tanzania

We’ll be sharing our full itineraries, favorite accommodations, and firsthand experiences from each destination — the moments that made us laugh, pause, and fall in love with travel all over again. From hidden boutique stays and unforgettable meals to the guides and experiences that brought every place to life, consider this your behind-the-scenes look at how we travel and how each trip becomes an Out Making Memories adventure.

Tanzania: A journey through the wild, the vast, and everything in between

Tanzania is one of those places that changes the way you experience travel.

It’s not just about what you see, although the wildlife is as incredible as you imagine.
It’s about how it feels to be there. The stillness. The scale. The moments in between.

This was a trip that stayed with us long after we left.

Why Tanzania surprised us

We expected the wildlife.
We didn’t expect how grounded it would feel.

• Mornings that start before sunrise, when everything is quiet
• Long drives where you’re not rushing to the next thing
• Landscapes that feel endless and untouched
• A rhythm that forces you to slow down and actually be present

It’s the kind of place where you naturally disconnect from everything else and fully step into where you are.

The route we took

One of the things that makes Tanzania so special is how much variety you can experience in a single trip.

We moved through the country in a way that felt intentional, not rushed, and each stop felt completely different from the last.

Arusha

The starting point.

Set at the base of Mount Meru, Arusha is where you arrive, reset, and begin to settle into a different pace. It’s not about doing much here, it’s about arriving and taking it all in.

Tarangire National Park

Where safari truly begins.

This was one of the most unexpected highlights. Huge elephant herds, towering baobab trees, and a quieter, less crowded feel than other parks.

It felt raw and real in the best way.

Ngorongoro Crater

A world within a world.

Driving down into the crater feels surreal. Once you’re inside, it’s an entirely self contained ecosystem filled with wildlife.

We saw everything here. Lions, rhinos, elephants, zebras — all within a single day.

It’s one of those places that doesn’t quite feel real until you’re in it.

Serengeti National Park

The one you dream about.

Endless plains, golden light, and wildlife everywhere you look.

This is where you start to understand just how vast Tanzania is. The scale is hard to describe, it just keeps going.

And if you time it right, this is where you may witness the Great Migration.

The Great Migration

We had always heard about it, but seeing even a small part of it in real life is something else entirely.

Thousands of animals moving together across the land, guided by instinct.

If you’re hoping to witness the Mara River crossings, mid August through late September offers the best chance. It’s not guaranteed, but when it happens, it’s one of the most powerful things you’ll ever see.

Saadani National Park

The most unexpected part of the trip.

After days on safari, we ended on the coast.

And not just any coast, a place where you can still go on game drives and then be on the beach the same day.

It felt like a completely different trip in the best way.

• Early morning safaris
• Traditional dhow sailing
• Quiet beaches
• Sunsets over the Indian Ocean

It was the perfect way to slow everything down before heading home.

What stood out most

It wasn’t just the big moments. It was the in between ones.

The quiet drives. The way the light changes throughout the day. Sitting and watching animals without feeling rushed. Evenings around the fire, replaying everything you saw. And the people, they are so kind, welcoming, and happy.

Tanzania has a way of making you slow down without even trying.

A different kind of travel

This trip reminded us that travel doesn’t always need to be fast paced or packed with plans. Sometimes it’s about giving yourself the space to fully experience where you are. To watch, wait and take it all in.

Would we go back?

Without question. Tanzania is one of those places that feels impossible to fully experience in just one trip. There’s always more to see, more to explore, and more to understand.

And that’s what makes it so special. And why we keep returning, and bringing travelers with us to experience the beauty of Tanzania with us.

If you’re thinking about Tanzania

Do it.

But do it in a way that gives you time to really experience it. Not rush through it.

Because this isn’t just a destination you check off your list. It’s one that stays with you.

If you’re ready to experience it for yourself, you’re always welcome to join us.
We run Tanzania group trips annually, with a Ladies Safari each September and a Family Safari each July.
